Metrology and Quality Assurance

Metrology is the science of measurement. Metrology includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement. Metrology is defined by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) as "the science of measurement, embracing both experimental and theoretical determinations at any level of uncertainty in any field of science and technology." The ontology and international vocabulary of metrology (VIM) is maintained by the International Organization for Standardization. An efficient laboratory program provides the basis for ensuring traceability of weights and measures standards.

Legal metrology laboratories are custodians that serve as the basis for ensuring equity in the marketplace and as reference standards for calibration services for indigenous industry. Traceability, accuracy, precision, systematic bias, evaluation of measurement uncertainty are critical parts of a quality management system.

In industry a Quality Assurance (QA) program encompasses a range of activities that enable laboratories to achieve and maintain high levels of accuracy and proficiency. Establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs); defining administrative requirements and specifying corrective actions and documentation are necessary for a good QA program that utilizes laboratory standardization.

Built to NIST handbook 105-3, OIML R120 and Measuremant Canada guidelines, Seraphin® fabricates accurate measuring devices that help laboratories maintain high standards.
